Evaluation Q5
Kris starts by saying that he likes the font as its a bit weird and I chose to do it differently from the rest as if its not then its just the same as what people have seen before and it wont grab their attention as much. He goes on to say that he likes the way that the masthead is embedded into the tagline and says it quite clever, I chose to do this as I knew it would be something that my target audience would appreciate and notice.
Kris then says he likes the colour scheme on the double page spread with the colour of the text on the brick wall background looking good and I did it like this to make it easier for the viewer to read and also look aesthetically pleasing.
Danielle started by talking about the title page and said that she likes the masthead as it stands out from the rest of the page as of it being a different colour to the background, I did this purposely to grab the attention of the audience and I added a drop shadow to just add a bit more to it. She also thought the same about the Kris title at the bottom right of the page, She then complemented the photo as she likes the way the text all fits around it with the writing next to it on the wall, I placed the photo like this as I wanted to have the text floating around but not on the picture. She thought that the shadow that's beneath the band names could be improved as she says it would look better behind the text, I'm glad she pointed this out as some people prefer the text with the shadow directly behind it but I preferred it below it and decided to do it in that way.
She then went on to the contents page saying that she liked the shape and layout and I chose to do it like this as again its different to any structure of page I have seen before and I'm glad that people would pick up on the difference of that and notice it as that's what its been designed to do. She then says that she thinks the colour of the social networking part of the contents should be changed as it doesn't fit with the rest of the page and this is a fair comment as it does look odd as its not the same as the rest of the page but a whole different colour and I did do this with that in mind but I carried on with the idea as I want that part to stand out and be different.
Danielle then finished by talking about the double page spread and saying she liked the fact that it had the picture directly next to the text so its easy to see what I'm talking about and makes it easier for the reader to see what I'm talking about.
Brandon starts of by saying its a very attractive front cover and then says that the price is good as its not expensive which is good as I want it to be affordable for the student so its good that this is being picked up on. He then says that the picture is quite cool and picks up on Kris's eyes, when I took this photo I decided to edit the eyes and darken them just to add mystery to the picture and make you think what his article is going to be about. He says the font is effective and I'm happy with this as so far I've had all positive feed back on the Mast head and I designed this so it would be effective as if your mast head isn't then people wont remember it and it wont grab their eyes and attention. He finishes his feedback on the cover page by saying that he like Danielle would prefer it if he shadow was behind the text rather than below it which has had mixed opinions about it and I still think I wouldn't change it just because it is different and some people do like it I find but others don't and I don't think that this is a major element that would put people off buying it.
Brandon picks up on the contents page being eye catching as of it being made up of lots of different shapes and this is good as when I put the contents page together that I was cautious to it looking a bit to odd with how different to other contents page it looked but the overall feedback on it has been good so I think it has worked to effect. He then goes on to make the point of how he thinks the social networking section at the bottom of the contents is good as it shows the magazine is modern and up to date and I was happy that he said this as when I decided to put it in I had that in mind, I want it to be modern and I want people to realize that it is so by putting it in and highlighting it people see it and think it goes further than being a magazine its online and its on these social networking sites that I use, so it ties in with my target audience relating to it.
He then begins to talk about the double page spread by saying the picture is good as it shows Kris as an individual, and the story is about him starting his solo career so that works well. He then says the pull quote is good as it big and it wants to make him read on to find out about what the quote means and this is what I wanted to make people think when they see this quote as that's what its there for to make people be enticed to what its all about.
Evaluation Q2
My media product represents the youth as it is aimed at a teenage audience and it covers articles on younger musicians. It represents the youth as quite positive and challenges the stereotype that the youth of today is seemingly all doom and gloom and that there are teens out there putting there minds to good use. I have done this by focusing the magazine on younger artists and showing that a lot of the youth are being inspired by music and focusing energy into doing something positive for society. I have chosen to show this social group in this way to purposely challenge the stereotype, also the youth are my intended audience so this representation of them will make the youth more inclined to buy my magazine.
It also represents young males as it is centered around the rock genre and most rock bands are made up of young males.
In my magazine young males are shown as quite pleasant people in the way they
speak but at the same time a bit rebellious at the same time as my cover star
is smoking and is not above the age at which it is legal to buy cigarettes or
tobacco so this shows young males as quite intimidating as they are not
conforming to the law. I think older people would be put of this as its going
against the rules but to the rest of the youth this wouldn't be seen as an
issue or put them of buying it. The way that young males are shown in
interviews and reviews is positive and quite mature. The way they are presented
fits my genre but confirms the stereotype on young people.
Rockers are represented in this magazine
as it is mainly focused on the rock genre. They are shown as cool and down to
earth individuals as these are peoples
role models and what people aspire to be like so by slating them or showing
them in a bad light not only does it put the artists themselves off coming for
an interview it puts your target audience off your magazine as they do not want
to read about you giving their heroes a hard time. This is shown in the text as
the questions given aren’t ones that are awkward but ones that ask questions
people want to know about and are straight forward to answer with no hidden
meaning for example one of my questions are “will you not miss the band?” and
this is easy enough to answer and come across as nice all you have to say is
“yes” to show that your not an obnoxious , fame crazed rocker. The image taken
of my cover star that features on my front page does show him off to be quite
cool as his face is half covered by his hair adding mystery to the picture,
also holding a cigarette that’s got smoke going up creates quite a nice effect,
also in the picture his eyes look like deep black circles you cannot tell his
eye colour from the picture and this again proposes a bit of mystery. I want to
show rockers in this way as the stereotype is that these people are on drugs,
casually having sex with their heads stuck in the clouds but by showing them as
down to earth and pleasant it challenges this stereotype, also by doing this it
may even help to change this stereotype on rockers. By showing them like this
it will make people more likely to buy the magazine as it’s conforming to what
the target audience want to see. I wouldn’t say the way I put the rockers
across fits in with the genre but it’s
like that for a reason and that is that I'm trying to show rockers differently
than what most magazines would .
